Welcome

We are a specialist consultancy at the intersection of synthetic biology, chemistry, and communication. Whether you are building a biotech venture, developing an enzyme-based process, or looking to bring complex science to a broader audience, we help you move from potential to outcome.Thompson Konsult brings together two complementary disciplines — technical-commercial leadership and science communication — to serve the growing needs of the life science and biotechnology sector. We work with industry innovators, media organisations, and investors who understand that great science, clearly communicated and commercially grounded, is what creates lasting value.

Johanna Thompson

Johanna is a chemist, communicator, and commercialisation expert whose career has been defined by a rare ability to make science accessible, engaging, and actionable. She holds a PhD in Enzymatic Catalysis and Organic Chemistry from Stockholm University, and has built an impressive dual career spanning the life science industry and mainstream media.
As Sr. Commercialization Manager Europe at Avantor, Johanna drives top-line revenue growth across the region by translating complex portfolio strategies into clear, effective commercial initiatives. In parallel, she has become one of Sweden's most recognisable science communicators — serving as resident chemist on TV4's Nyhetsmorgon, appearing on SVT, and contributing to Livslångt, a podcast by RISE — where she brings chemistry and current science to life for a general audience with remarkable warmth and clarity.
For Thompson Konsult, Johanna leads public engagement, popular science events, and scientific advisory — helping organisations connect with the public, policymakers, and media in ways that build genuine understanding and trust.

Matthew Thompson

Matthew is a chemist and commercial strategist with over a decade of experience scaling enzyme technology from the lab to industrial reality. Holding a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Manchester, he has led large, multidisciplinary teams through the critical startup and scale-up phases of some of Europe's most ambitious synbio companies.
At EnginZyme, Matthew built and directed an enzyme engineering platform that leveraged computational design, high-throughput screening and machine learning — delivering commercial breakthroughs including the production of pseudouridine, a key raw material for mRNA vaccines. He now serves as VP Industrial Biotech at Biomatter, where he bridges technical capability and commercial strategy to drive revenue-generating programmes at scale.
For Thompson Konsult, Matthew leads on technical advisory, business development, and marketing and sales strategy — bringing the clarity and conviction needed to turn complex biology into compelling commercial propositions.
